Miller Fellowship Award Winners

The Miller Fellowship recognizes the top student each quarter in course performance. The Miller Fellowship was created in 1997 as a result of a generous donation from alumnus Bill Cobb who expressed his desire to remember the contributions of Frank Miller to the academic careers of 25 years of department graduates. Frank G. Miller earned his bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in engineering from the University of California-Berkeley and was chairman of the department from 1953 until his retirement in 1976. After retiring from Stanford, he served as co-principal investigator on California's largest geothermal geyser project, located approximately 100 miles north of campus.

Frank lived in Los Altos Hills until his death in December 1999, and often came to Stanford to make the presentation of the Fellowship.

Robert G. Lindblom Memorial Award Winner

The Lindblom Fellowship recognizes an undergraduate student who has had an impact on the ESE community. The Lindblom Fellowship is named in memory of Prof. Robert G. “Bob” Lindblom, who taught at Stanford for over 40 years until his death in 2022.  Bob came to Stanford Energy Science & Engineering after a career as a Staff Development Geologist at Chevron, and his knowledge of the industry served as a foundation for students seeking to understand the world and to eventually lead the way to the energy transition. He was a proud “Newcomer Guide,” voluntarily mentoring students from the time of their arrival on campus until they declared a major. He also served as a Pre-Major Advisor, providing guidance to undergrads over the course of their degree program. Over the course of four decades of teaching and mentoring, Robert Lindblom had an undeniable impact on the education, careers, and lives of hundreds of students.
